I have a friend
He lives with me
Since birth, actually
I’ve never been able to shake Him off
Believe me, I tried

I tried to run away, but He was always one step ahead of me
I tried to close my eyes, and he made me dream of Him instead
I tried to close the door, but He didn’t leave He just waited there
He didn’t knock; he waited
My neighbors asked me why I don’t just let him in
I blamed it on the cost of living
The very “cost” that left me with a broken door I had no funds to fix
There, it was open, so He came in

The next day, the my car broke down
He fixed it AND gave me a new one
Nobody told me he was a mechanic

The day after, the food ran out
From then on, my food never spoiled or depleted
Nobody told me he was a farmer

The day after, I fell ill and sick
He touched me, and I felt alive… for the first time ever
Nobody told me he was a healer

A few days on, rent came knocking
I thought He’d pay the price
“It’s already paid, but this house is not for you”
He told me to follow Him

So, I followed
We walked
Through storms and death-valleys; we walked
And there it was

He built me a home on a rock
Gomora and the flooded cities below only a balcony view
Nobody told me he was a carpenter

I finally looked at Him
The first “thank you” I’d ever offer Him
His face visaged and imaged like my own
His wrists and feet stamped with holes
He smiled, disappeared, but His presence never left
Nobody told me He is Jesus
